channyn@sbcglobal.net asked: Well, the title, pretty much says it all. Where do I start, for a genealogy search. My fathers family, is a bit of a mystery to me. I only know as far back as, my great-grandparents, names, and where they were from. Any help, would be greatly appreciated. Being African American, makes it kinda harder, due to the fact, of slavery, missing or no birth certificate, etc, etc…. Thanks.

Nick asked: I know I can always just ask my older family members, but I don’t think they will have the old Birth Certificates to prove it!

animalover asked: how does it work? where do I start? what if my family is not from the US?
WOW! Thanks everyone for all that great info. My family is Cuban but most of my great grandparents are from Spain. Perhaps I should try ancestry.com it seems like a put together site

jonie j asked: I am attending college this year and found out there are scholarships available for students that have Native Americans in their families. Does any one have any ideas or knowledge on how to trace their ancestry in this area?

pdiluigi asked: I am interested in tracing my roots and finding out if I have relatives in other countries. However, I wondered if there was an inexpensive (FREE) way of doing what with all of the wonders of the Internet.

cindy_cee13 asked: I was told that Mormon churches in most cities will let you do your genealogy.
Do they charge anything?
Do they have the name of everyone who was born in the USA? How do I go about such research for my family?
My mother maiden name is Smith. Are there too many Smiths?
How can I find out where the nearest place to me is?
And if I do go, will they try to “convert” me?
Thank you.

Cassandra K asked: I am a 5th generation American. A grandfather of mine, Samual Crawford, sailed to America in the late 1700’s with about 35 other Crawfords on a ship called the “Napier.” I am not sure how to go about it, but I would LOVE to find and contact some realitivies that I have in Ireland. I don’t know how to go about finding them though. Anyone from Ireland have any suggestions? I may be able to find out what town he was from, but not quite sure. I also have most of the names of all the other Crawfords that were on the ship with him.
Thank you in advance!
God Bless!!

delux_version asked: I’ve hit a road block. Aside from traveling 1500 miles to the locaton I’m stuck at what’s the best way to locate ansestors prior to coming to America? Or really any of your best experiences where you were stuck and had an epiphiny, that got you unstuck. Please keep advice to low $’s, if I spend anymore cash my wife will turn me into an ansestor!
