What’s the genealogy of the modern day Iraqi people and the ancient Mesopotamians?

genealogy
Az-u-can-see asked:

Is there any genealogical connection between the modern day Iraqi people (Muslims and others) and ancient mesopotamians such as Babylonains, Sumerians, Assyrians and Arameans? some modern Iraqis try to link their selves to these ancient people, so is it true or just a myth? since most of modern Iraq’s population speaks Arabic as a mother tounge.

  1. Nothingusefullearnedinschool says:

It is true; they are descended from the Mesopotamians (Greek for “between two rivers” — The Tigris and Euphrates). Just google the Mesopotamians, Iraqis, Iranians, etc.
You have two choices: trace through histories of these various peoples; or find someone from there and have a DNA test done. Either way, you will find that they ARE descended from the Mesopotamians, including Babylonians, Sumerians, Assyrians and Armenians.
Or, you could try the National Geographics Genotype Programs…Just google it, as they have several websites.
