I’ve used Family Tree Maker for over 10 years. It is good and is upgraded periodically.

    I use Roots Magic because
    1) It is well-designed. (I was a data base designer, and I know good work when I see it.)
    2) Easy to use
    3) Custom reporting is superb
    4) RM had the “Print to a file” option three or four versions before FTM had it.

PAF is free. Family Tree Maker is the market leader in the USA.

There are others. Search for [Genealogy Software Review] in Google or another reputable search engine to find them.

    Legacy.

They supply a free version which you can upgrade to Deluxe with advanced features if and when you become a dedicated Genealogist.
