What was the most unexpected/unusual information source you’ve come across in your Genealogy hunt?

Lola asked:

Unexpected places can lead to great breakthroughs, like checking my gr-gr-gr-grandfather’s brother’s commitment to an county old age home, led me to discover they weren’t the only ones to come to America? What led you to your breakthroughs?
A source that really helped me was my grandmother’s funeral book. Her sister who died a short time later filled in the family section.

  1. The Broken Planet says:

A pub in Dundalk, Ireland, where I learned more about my family lineage than I did from any other source.

  2. Mind Bender says:

That my 2nd great-grandfather was a deserter in the Civil War. Not unusual you say….well, you would be right except that…. he was a deserter from BOTH the Confederate Army AND the Union Army.
