What’s the genealogy of the modern day Iraqi people and the ancient Mesopotamians?

Is there any genealogical connection between the modern day Iraqi people (Muslims and others) and ancient mesopotamians such as Babylonains, Sumerians, Assyrians and Arameans? some modern Iraqis try to link their selves to these ancient people, so is it true or just a myth? since most of modern Iraq’s population speaks Arabic as a mother tounge.

   It’s quite possible that many modern Iraqis have descended from ancient Sumerians. That’s only 4,000 years ago!

   the descendants are the christian Assyrians
   the Muslims are invader Arabs
   Assyrians speak a different language (similar to what Christ spoke)
